Roberto Buscemi

PhD Student

Roberto was born in Marsala (Italy). He studied Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Parma, where he undertook his final year project under the supervision of Prof. Franca Zanardi. Here, Roberto's research focused on the synthesis of enantioenriched uracil derivatives through organocatalysed [4+2] cycloadditions. After obtaining his Master’s degree, he joined the group of Prof. Mathias Christmann at FU Berlin, for a summer placement, working on multi-component reactions involving aryne intermediates. In 2022, Roberto started his doctoral studies in the group of Dr. Crisenza at the University of Manchester (UK). Roberto's project targets the development of photochemical methods for the radical activation of carbon–heteroatom bonds.
Besides chemistry, Roberto is passionate about sports: especially motocross, mixed martial arts and crossfit.
