Martina Porco
Visiting PhD Student
Martina was born in Cosenza, Italy. She obtained her BSc degree from the University of Calabria, where she worked under the supervision of Prof. Iolinda Aiello on the synthesis and functionalisation of silica nanoparticles. She then completed her MSc degree at the University of Pisa, under the supervision of Prof. Chiara Gabbiamo and Dr. Alessandro Pratesi, focusing on the synthesis and characterisation of platinum(IV) complexes as potential anticancer prodrugs.Martina is currently a PhD student at the University of L’Aquila in the group of Prof. Armando Carlone and Prof. Fabio Pesciaioli, as part of a National PhD programme in Catalysis carried out in collaboration with the pharmaceutical company Fresenius Kabi. Her doctoral research involves the development of supramolecular organocatalysts for reactions in aqueous media, fluorination reactions via organophotoredox catalysis, and an additional industrial project. She is presently undertaking a research placement at the University of Manchester in the Crisenza group, where her research focuses on the photocatalytic functionalisation of alkenes. In her free time, Martina enjoys singing, reading, and hiking.
